I'm A Travellin' Man...

I'm back from our little mini-vacation. While mom was recovering from her surgery (she had a benign abdominal mass removed) we decided to head to the Salt Lake City area. We had lots of adventures in just a couple of days!
This is me by the "Utah Tree". It's a really large concrete sculpture just off the interstate in the middle of nowhere. We saw it on our way to the Bonneville Salt Flats.

We are probably among the very few people who would visit the Salt Flats when they are covered in water. It looked more like a lake than a salty desert!

Just past the Utah Tree and the Bonneville Salt Flats is Wendover. It is right on the border of Nevada and is known for its historic military base. It is the last intact World War II base. This base is where they trained the crew of the Enola Gay (the plane that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima). It is also where they shot scenes for Independence Day and ConAir. (There are a lot of movies filmed all, or in part, in Utah.)

This is me standing near the plane they used in filming ConAir. We got special passes to walk out onto the tarmac and look around.

Hi Maxon,
I'm wondering if you are going to be a pilot???? That would be an exciting career and you'll get to see even more of the wonderful world we live in.

How exciting to get to see all those neat places and things.
