Need I Say More?

I'm A Travellin' Man...

I'm back from our little mini-vacation. While mom was recovering from her surgery (she had a benign abdominal mass removed) we decided to head to the Salt Lake City area. We had lots of adventures in just a couple of days!
This is me by the "Utah Tree". It's a really large concrete sculpture just off the interstate in the middle of nowhere. We saw it on our way to the Bonneville Salt Flats.

We are probably among the very few people who would visit the Salt Flats when they are covered in water. It looked more like a lake than a salty desert!

Just past the Utah Tree and the Bonneville Salt Flats is Wendover. It is right on the border of Nevada and is known for its historic military base. It is the last intact World War II base. This base is where they trained the crew of the Enola Gay (the plane that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima). It is also where they shot scenes for Independence Day and ConAir. (There are a lot of movies filmed all, or in part, in Utah.)

This is me standing near the plane they used in filming ConAir. We got special passes to walk out onto the tarmac and look around.

I've Made A Lot Of Stops...

While we were at the airforce base, we met some nice technicians who let us into one of the hangars. (Usually off limits!) We were able to get up close to some working World War II planes!
We also went to Temple Square in Salt Lake City. (Sorry! We didn't take any photos!) While we were there we took a partial tour of Brigham Young's home - The Beehive House. Because he practiced polygamy (aka plural or celestial marriage), the man had 56 children. I can't even imagine having that many brothers and sisters! About half way through the tour I decided that I had seen enough and loudly expressed - "No!No!No!" We excused ourselves and left. I am much too little to understand religion!

What I do understand is...
It sure is comfortable to dine with your feet on the table!

All Over ... Utah!

Hmmm! What else did we do? Oh yeah! We went to the Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake City. It was "a world of birds in Utah". I really liked looking at all of the birds. (I can both sign and say 'bird' now.)
These birds were native to Argentinia.
(They were nice enough to let me into their house!)
I'm sure that you recognize my friends - the flamingos.
And, of course, Mr. Peacock!

We sure had a good time exploring the state!

A Lesson in Sarcasm!

I am what you might call a helper. I love to do what I can to make things easier for others. I will frequently help move piles of dirt that have been swept up on the floor. If necessary I will remove (and eat) any food particles. I will even grab the broom myself and try to help move the pile of stuff around. Mom and Dad really appreciate everything I do to make their lives easier! Now, you might ask how there gets to be so much stuff on the floor in the first place. I am sure that it is in no way my fault. I never spill food on the floor!

Howdy!

I am learning how to say more and more words!
My new favorite is 'howdy'!
Now, the 'd' sound is a little soft, but I'm working on it!
I figure if I'm livin' in the southwest,
I'd better be able to chat with the cowboys!
Well, pardners, ya'll keep in touch now, ya' hear!

Bowling for ...

... the first time!
These are the nice folks who took care of us at Jillian's in Las Vegas.
In case you haven't guessed it, bowling is not a popular evening activity in Vegas.
What are all the people doing, I wonder?
I did really well for my first time at the lanes.
Mom and Dad helped me aim, but I pushed the ball.
I got a score of 81! Really!
(Okay, I had the bumpers up!)

Vegas, Baby, Vegas!

We stayed in Las Vegas for a few days before Mom flew to Minneapolis to pick up Grandma W.
I can't believe it, but even a little guy like me fell victim to a few tempatations!
On our way to breakfast one morning we saw the Weinermobile!
We visited the Hoover Dam. It was pretty big!
Maybe I will be a high-scaler some day!
Just outside of Sin City is the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
We went on a little hike.
(Dad is just pretending to be a mountain climber!)
We had to be on the lookout for wild burros - seriously!
Here I am taming one!
We visited Old Nevada. It was pretty old; it hadn't been touched since the 1950's. It was a really interesting experience.

The best part was that a few days after mom left, she brought Grandma W. back to Utah!
I will get to see her almost every day!
(She is going to stay here for the summer and work with Mom and Dad at the Inn.)
